Stewart County School-Parent Compact

Stewart County Schools and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

This school-parent compact is in effect during the 2007-2008 school year.

School Responsibilities

Stewart County Schools will:

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
  2. Students in Stewart County Schools will be taught by highly qualified, certified teachers and assisted by highly qualified paraprofessionals. The curriculum will follow the Tennessee Curriculum Standards guided by the companion document A Blueprint for Learning. Teachers will actively engage students in the learning process through the use of research-based teaching strategies, methods, activities and materials validated as sound practice within each content area. The classroom culture in each room will develop student intellectual capacity through the establishment of clear classroom standards for behavior and achievement. Students will be provided opportunities for positive intellectual interactions through instructional experiences that result in student investigation of theories, facts, and opinions related to the content area. Students will also be provided opportunities to learn and challenge each other through planned, cooperative peer interaction.

  3. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.

Conferences with any teacher will be readily scheduled at the request of the parent.

  1. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:

Mid-progress reports are provided for grades Pre-K-5 during the 3rd week of the 6 week grading period.

Mid-progress reports are provided for grades 6-12 at the midpoint of the 9 weeks grading period.

Report cards are issued for all students in grades Pre-K at the end of each 6 weeks grading period.

Progress on academic achievement as well as behavior is provided daily through the use of planners/agenda/folders for student in grades K-8.

Progress reports can be requested at any time through email access to every teacher Pre-k-12 at www.stewartcountyschools.net. or by leaving a voicemail message for individual teachers at their respective schools.

 

  1. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:
  2. Administrators are available on a daily basis from 7:10 to 4:00 at their respective schools. Please call to schedule a meeting.

    Teachers are available during the day during their planning times. Planning time varies from teacher to teacher. Please call to schedule a meeting. Teachers are also available for conferences after school as requested.

  3. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and to observe classroom activities, as follows:

Parental involvement and support is greatly encouraged in Stewart County Schools. There is a wide range of activities in which parents can participate. Listed are a few examples:

Parents may volunteer at each school by completing the Three for Me activity director of the Family Resource Center, Nancy Spiers, at 232-5442 or 232-5505 or 232-5176. card and returning it to the school.

Parents may schedule to visit their child’s classroom by contacting the administration of the school.
