Suggested Activities That Can Influence Your Student's Educational Achievement
To the Parent: Listed below are activities by grade that are suggested for you and your child to complete. They help you monitor your child's progress in school and in preparing for graduation. These are in addition to other activities in being conducted by the staff at the school. The dates of events are announced each year as they become available.
About the Guidance Office
At Stewart County High School a counselor is available to work with the
students on scheduling options, post secondary training, and other topics.
For routine questions and scheduling issues the student fills out an appointment
request and is scheduled for an appointment when the counselor is available.
The counselor is always available for crisis intervention or other issues that
need immediate attention.
The Guidance Office is open from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day school is in
session. someone is available during the summer for transcripts and
withdrawals. If you are unsure about who to see, we will be happy to
direct you to the appropriate person. Parents are encouraged to call the
Guidance Office whenever they have questions or concerns regarding their

Grade 9
Make sure your child has completed his/her 4-year plan if it was not competed prior to enrollment.
Meet with the counselor any time you feel it's necessary to review or change the 4-year plan. *EACH YEAR
Discuss career plans with your child. *EACH YEAR
Keep in touch with your child's teachers should any problems arise. Your may leave a message with any of your child's teachers by calling the main school office any time during the school day. *EACH YEAR
Understand the Stewart County School System attendance policy and promote regular attendance by your child. *EACH YEAR
All students participating in athletics should be familiar with the TSSAA Eligibility Requirements. *EACH YEAR
All students should take the GATEWAY tests wile enrolled in the corresponding
class. Passing scores on Gateway Exams in Algebra I, English II, and Biology I are
graduation requirements.
Grade 10
Review your child's 4-year plan to insure that it is still meets his/her educational needs including planning to make up any necessary courses he/she has failed.
If your child is undecided on what he/she wants to do following graduation, encourage him/her to meet with a counselor.
See that you and your child are familiar with graduation and college entrance requirements.
If your child plans to attend a college or university, he/she should take the PLAN (as practice).
Encourage your child to visit the Guidance Office and the library for career and college information. *ALSO IN 11th AND 12th GRADE
Students may apply for admission to Governor's School. Special programs
of study are available to highly motivated and talented students who apply and are accepted.

Grade 11
Your child should take the ACT or SAT in the spring.
If your child is an athlete who wished to be recruited by the NCAA school, he/she should take the ACT or SAT in the spring.
Review your child's 4-year plan and graduation requirements. Check the plan specifically to be sure your child plans to make up any necessary courses he/she has failed.
Junior credit checks are reviewed in September to insure that the student is
on track for graduation.
Grade 12
Attend programs on trade, technical, or college admissions and financial aid.
Senior credit checks are reviewed in September. Be sure to ask your senior if he/she will have all the credits necessary for graduation.
If the student plans to attend a college or university, remind him/her of the dates of admission testing and filling the application.
Complete financial aid forms if necessary. Check due dates of scholarship application procedures.
Take college admissions tests (ACT/SAT) if necessary.
GPA's and class rank are calculated the 2nd week of January. Colleges do not expect information before that time.
Plan for graduation activities.
