An ACT word of the day will be posted on the SCHS website and once a month there will be a voluntary test on the ACT words.  The students that score the highest will be entered into a drawing for fabulous prizes.  This is an excellent way to raise ACT scores.

The ACT word of the day is COERCE.  Coerce is a verb meaning:  To cause to do something by threat or force.

We are on regular schedule today.

There will not be Saturday School , Credit Recovery or Tutoring this Saturday, February 4.

Miss Stewart County Pageant applications are available from Mrs. Jeannie Nolen, Mrs. Parsons, or Miss Berry.  The Pageant is May 5th and you must be 16 years old to apply. 

Good luck to the basketball teams play at home against Waverly.  JV games begin at 3:00 and Varsity games begin at 6:00.  Coach Harper is pre selling tickets with Blackout shirts.  Shirts with a game ticket are $7.  Shirts sold alone are $10.

The Baseball team is selling hat for $20.  See a baseball player or Coach Genz to get one.

Prom guest fees will apply after today.

Auditions for Stewart County Has Talent will be held in the cafeteria Thursday, March 8 starting at 3pm.  There is a registration fee of $10 due no later than March 1st.  Registration forms are available outside room 116.

Spring play tryouts are Monday, February 6th at 3:30 at the Annex Auditorium.  Scripts may be picked up in Room 217.

Spring Pictures and Cap and Gowns pictures will be taken on Wednesday February 8th.  You must prepay to have your picture made.  Forms containing prices and your payment envelop may be picked up in the office.

Attention all readers.....voting for the Volunteer State Book Award starts soon.  If you have read any of this year's nominees, you are eligible to vote.  For a complete list visit the SCHS library webpage or the Reb Web Internet Cafe in the library.  It is not too late to read any of these and get in on the voting.  See Mrs. Black for details.

The Beta Club-Science Club Recycling contest is still in full force.  FBLA inched ahead of FCCLA today with a nice turn in.  The Book Club is in third.  Remember all money generated for the contest will be split with the winning club.  Items for recycle include ink and toner cartridges, old cell phone, old digital cameras. old laptops, mp3s and GPS devices.  Turn into the library.

Today, is National Wear Red Day.  Wearing red shows support of the American Red Association's fight against heart disease in women.

The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine is currently accepting applications for the 2012 Veterinary Summer Experience Program.  To apply a student must be a current high school junior or senior and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  See Ms. Marshall for more information.

Prom guest fees are $40; Junior & Senior fees are $60.  Guest late fees will apply after February 3.  Fees need to be brought to Mr. Cavallini before school or during homeroom.  Guest names must be documented with Mr. Cavallini; and approval form may be required.

ATTENTION SENIORS:

  • Turn in Name Spelling Confirmation forms to the office.
  • Check the senior announcements online regularly for scholarship information and deadlines.

Ft. Donelson National Battlefield is recruiting individuals to participate in the Youth Conservation Corps this summer.  Work will require physical challenges outdoors and youth must commit to working 40 hours per week for the duration of the program which is conducted form the end of May until school begins again in August.  Participants must be between 15 and 18 years of age at the start of the program.  Applicants are available in the office.  The park will receive completed applications through February 10, 2012.

The SCHS faculty is proud to announce that the February Student of the Month is Dakota Rakestraw.  Dakota is selected for his exceptional character, citizenship, academic achievement, student involvement in activities/organizations, and because he serves as a positive role model for underclassmen.  Congratulations Courtney for being chosen as February Student of the Month!

The Student Anti-Drug coalition and anyone wishing to join will meet after school today in the library.

Until further notice, students will need a flash drive to save computer work in the library Computer Lab unless they have a personal log in.

Ladies please be conscientious to NOT wear form fitting or sweater dresses, even with leggings.  It is a dress code violation.

Please make sure you are cleaning up after yourself in the cafeteria after breakfast.

Beta Club members are reminded to turn in their membership dues as soon as possible.

Enrollment forms for the Spain 2013 Trip are available outside room 116 for students and faculty who are interested.

Students should not be on cell phones while driving.  It is a law and starting today Officer West will issue citations for breaking it.

Stewart County High School supports the policy.

Students please remember that following an absence you must have an admit slip issued by the office.  A student who does not pick up an admit slip prior to reporting to 1st period will be sent to the office to obtain on and will be considered tardy to class.  It is the responsibility of the student to arrive at school early enough to pick up an admit slip prior to 7:40, so that he/she may be in 1st period class before the tardy bell.

The school nurse cannot provide Tylenol or Ibuprofen to students this year.  Parents must bring in medications and fill out a permission form.

Food and drinks are not allowed in the classrooms.  Football players and band members are allowed to have water only, no Gatorade or soda.

Students are reminded of the attendance policy.  Students must be present at least 70 minutes of class time to be considered present for that class AND if more than six unexcused absences are accumulated during a trimester class any average of 70 or higher  becomes a 69 and no credit will be will be granted  for that class.  Remember  also to bring in a doctor's note the day you return to school in order to get your absence excused.

Be sure to check out the school calendar on the website for all SCHS activities.  The sports schedules will be posted along with maps to help get you to our away games.  Any activities will be posted.
