Mrs. Emily’s Kindergarten Discipline Policy 2007-2008The rules and consequences for my discipline policy are listed below. Please read and discuss this policy with your child. Kindergarten is a major adjustment for children and I fully expect that each child may mildly misbehave from time to time. Children will always test the limits the first few weeks of school or upon entering a new school, which may lead to a child turning several cards during this transition time. Children have to discover the limits of our classroom for themselves. I strive to be fair and consistent concerning the rules of our room. In our classroom I try to focus more on positive than negative behavior. I do believe children have to learn responsibility for their actions and that they must choose to make good choices. When a child misbehaves I will try to help him/her understand the importance of making good choices and I will try to provide a child with examples of good choices he/she can make the next time. Please help me with this by encouraging your child to make good choices. School Wide Rules-3 B's of NSE Be Prepared Be Respectful Be Responsible Classroom Rules:
Rewards: Children who exhibit good behavior and stay on the green card all day will be allowed to add marbles to their jar. When a child has five marbles he/she will be allowed to get a toy/prize out of the Treasure Box. Children may also be rewarded with stickers, tickets, extra recess, extra computer time and special privileges. Children who stay on the green card all week will be invited to eat with the teacher in the classroom on the following Monday. Behavior Consequences: If a child breaks a rule I will verbally warn and redirect him/her towards more positive behavior. If the child continues to misbehave, he/she will turn a card. There is a consequence associated with each card. All children begin the day with a green card. Explanation Of Card System Green Card: GREAT day!! Add a marble for overall good behavior! Yellow Card: Warning-no marble Red Card: 10 minutes of recess/playtime lost Blue Card: 20 minutes of recess/playtime lost Black Card: 30 minutes of recess/playtime lost If a child continues to misbehave after reaching the black card he/she will be sent to the principal’s office. In extreme cases a student may be sent to the principal’s office without reaching the black card. Verbal threats or offensive language will not be tolerated. Children who threaten to harm others or use offensive language will be sent to the office. A behavior report is sent home whenever a child turns a card. This is my way of communicating to parents what has happened and allows us to work together to address minor behaviors and correct them immediately.
