Important Information Contacting Teacher: If you ever have any questions please contact me at school by note, e-mail or phone call. I will reply as promptly as possible. The best time to reach me by phone is during my planning time. You will receive a copy of our daily schedule that will list my planning times. Home-School Communication: Each Friday I will send home a newsletter explaining the next week's activities. I will also send home a weekly progress report with information about your child's performance and behavior during the week. Children will bring home their folders daily with work and any communication about school events inside. Please check your child's folder and return to school each day. Parent/Teacher Conferences: There will be school wide conferences scheduled in the fall. Parents or teachers may also request a conference at anytime throughout the year. At any conference the Principal, Vice Principal, Guidance Counselor or other relevant school personnel may be invited to attend. Visiting/Volunteering in Classroom: Parents are always welcome to visit our classroom. Please remember to sign in and obtain a visitor's pass in the office before coming to the classroom. Please remember when visiting/volunteering in our classroom that I will not be able to discuss your child's progress or concerns you have when children are present in the classroom. If you have a concern we need to discuss we will need to set up a conference during my planning time. Lunch Money and Extra Food Purchases: Please send lunch money to school in an envelope with your child's name and teacher written on the outside. I would suggest sending the money for the entire week on Monday in your child's folder. I would like to make parents aware that in the past I have had students who would purchase extras (ice cream, fruit roll-up's, etc...) everyday and that either the student's lunch or extra was thrown away because the student could not eat everything. You may want to consider limiting the amount of extras your child purchases in the lunchroom. Excuses from PE/Recess: If your child needs to be excused from PE or recess due to an injury or illness, please send a note explaining why and for how long your child needs to be excused. Absences from School: Please call and let the school know if your child is going to be absent. If you are unable to call, please send a note explaining why your child was absent when he/she returns to school. By calling or sending a note the office is able to keep an accurate count of excused absences. Without a note or call a child cannot be given an excused absence. An excessive amount of unexcused absences will result in a referral to the attendance supervisor. Tardiness: Please try and keep tardiness to a minimum. STUDENTS WHO ENTER THE SCHOOL/CLASSROOM AFTER 8:00 MUST GO THROUGH THE OFFICE AND RECEIVE A TARDY SLIP. Early Dismissal: If you need to pick up your child early you must sign him/her out in the office. To keep classroom disruptions to a minimum, children will be called to the office. After 2:30 students will be given a note and sent to the car rider line if a parent wishes to pick them up. Change in Bus/Pickup: Please contact the school as soon as possible if there is going to be a change in how your child will leave school. We CAN NOT allow your child to ride a different bus, be picked up by someone different in the car rider line or leave with a person who is not listed on the child's emergency card without permission from a parent/guardian. You may call or send a note explaining any changes. Please remember that this policy is in place to insure your child's safety. Show and Tell: We will have show and tell day on Friday of each week. Students are allowed to bring items to share that relate to what we are learning about. This activity is lots of fun for everyone and parents will need to help children to select appropriate items. Please do not send items that are breakable or of great value or sentiment, accidents can and do happen. The item(s) MUST remain in the child's backpack except during show and tell time. Birthdays: We do like to observe and celebrate each child's birthday. Parents may send in a special snack on the day we celebrate your child's birthday. Book orders: You will have the opportunity to buy quality books at a reduced price from Scholastic book company throughout the year.
