Character Counts

There are six Character Pillars

  Trustworthiness

  Respect

  Responsibility

  Fairness

  Caring

  Citizenship

Each six weeks we cover one of the Character Pillars.  There is a "Word of the Week" for each week of the six weeks.

Our character pillar for the first six weeks is TRUSTWORTHINESS.  Are you trustworthy?  Do you keep your promises?  Can others count on you to do the things you say you will.  "TRUST is believing that what is promised will really happen."  TRUST is needed everywhere - in our family, classroom, work place, sports team, and friendships.

A character trait is a particular characteristic or quality that distinguishes us from others.  Character traits for trustworthiness include honesty, reliability, loyalty, integrity, and courage.

Character can be good or bad.  Character traits associated with good character include honesty, respect for others, responsibility, kindness, sharing, and many others.  Character traits associated with poor or bad character can include dishonesty, being disrespectful, unable to keep a secret, rude, and other similar qualities.

Everyone has character, either good or bad, and others judge our character by the things we say and do.  We cannot hide our true character all the time.  We may be able to fool our parents, friends or teachers for a while but eventually our true character will be known.  Our character is shown in the choices we make in life and in our actions every day.

If your character is not what you want it to be, begin today to change your actions and your choices.  It may be difficult but it will be worth it.
