Parents' Right to Know
Important Notice: The following information applies only to schools receiving Title I, Part A funds:
- Dover Elementary
- North Stewart Elementary
- Stewart County Middle
As the parent or guardian of a student attending a Title I school, you have the right to request information concerning the professional qualifications of your child’s teachers and instructional paraprofessionals.
You may request information regarding whether your child’s teacher:
- Has met Tennessee’s qualification and licensing requirements for the grade level and subject area in which the teacher provides instruction;
- Is teaching under an emergency, provisional, or other temporary status through which state qualification or licensing requirements have been waived;
- Is teaching in the field or discipline of the teacher’s certification; and
- Holds any advanced degrees or additional certifications, including the field of study for those credentials.
You may also request information regarding whether your child receives services from an instructional paraprofessional and, if so, whether the paraprofessional meets applicable state and federal qualification requirements.
In addition, parents and guardians of students attending a Title I school will be notified if their child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable state certification or licensure requirements for the assigned grade level or subject area.
To request this information, please contact your child’s school principal or the Stewart County Schools Federal Programs Office. Requests will be addressed in a timely manner.
